The Bag Boy Nitron Auto-Open is our new Editor’s Pick.
What we like:
- It rolls smoothly, maneuvers well, and has a wide base for better stability on uneven terrain. (More important than you think.)
- Premium materials and premium construction.
- Crazy easy to open and close. (They aren’t kidding about “auto”.)
- Umbrella holder included.
- Convenient hand brake.
- Super-convenient mobile device holder or GPS holder.
What we don’t like:
- Front wheel doesn’t swivel.
Unlike our favorite push carts, the Nitron Auto Open has no swiveling front wheel. (I’m not sure why this isn’t an industry standard.)
But, we found it maneuvered well and is probably the biggest and most stable cart we’ve tested.
The adjustable handle is big and exceptionally comfortable. I only appreciated this after testing models with smaller handles.
There’s a ample storage space for all your accessories, including a golf ball storage section for three balls.
It’s also got a dedicated & convenient beverage holder right under the accessory compartment.

Recommendation: Well worth the price. High quality and a joy to push around.

The Bag Boy Quad Pro with Top Lock system.
What we like:
- Rolls smoothly and maneuvers well over uneven and even severe terrain. (Side hill, Down hill, Up hill, Over curbs)
- Premium frame materials and construction.
- Folds compact and is very lightweight.
- Easy 2-step process to open and close.
- Umbrella holder included.
What we don’t like:
- I had to babysit the umbrella. It flew off in an occasional mild wind. Fastening bungy didn’t work great for me. (Could be operator error)
Bag Boy makes great push carts and the Quad Pro is no exception.
I love the looks, quality materials, and construction.
We’re not even talking about how easy they close and open yet – Very easy and the most intuitive brand I’ve tested.
It took me a bit to figure out the Top Lock system because I kept trying to secure the straps.
You don’t do that with Top Lock.
Like the Nitro, it’s got a soft, grippy, and comfortable handle. But, it’s not as big as the Nitro’s.

Recommendation: A quality push cart at a reasonable price.
#3 Clicgear Rovic Swivel RV1S Push Cart

Best for budget-conscious golfers who won’t compromise on performance and maneuverability.

The Clicgear Rovis Swivel is our former #1 pick for best golf push cart.
What we like:
- Rolls smoothly & maneuvers easily over most terrain.
- Easy to open and close for storage or transport.
- Ample storage.
- Premium construction.
- Great price.
What we don’t like:
- Stock often runs low.
It’s obviously made well – I knew as soon as I set my eyes on it.
It opened and closed easily and intuitively the first time for me and got easier every time after that.
I love how it rolls, and the front swivel wheel makes it exceptionally maneuverable.
I steered it around the course without paying constant attention to it.
The storage compartment easily fits my phone and Skycaddie.
It’s got all the storage you’ll need during your round, and it folds up small for easy transport and storage.
The Rovis Swivel checks all the boxes and comes in at an unreasonably good price.
As with most golf push carts, the instructions aren’t the best. So, the first time opening it was a slight pain for me.
But once you get it, you’re good to go.

Recommendation: I don’t see how you wouldn’t like the Rovis Swivel if you give it a fair try. The price is great, too.
#4 Clicgear Model 4 Push Cart
Premium construction with stable and durable build. Rolls and maneuvers well with ample accessory storage and compact fold.
Quality materials mean longevity, though slightly heavy to carry and opening takes practice.
Best for golfers who want proven Clicgear quality and don’t mind spending more.
- Premium Construction
- Stable & Durable
- Ample Accessory Storage
- Folds small enough
- Maneuvers well
- A little heavy to carry

The Clicgear Model 4 has been on our list for years for a reason…or two.
What we like:
- Rolls & maneuvers well.
- Premium materials and construction.
- Folds to a decently compact size.
- Handy storage for your phone, balls, scorecard, tees, etc.
- The Umbrella holder is a lifesaver when it’s sunny and hot.
What we don’t like:
- Poor instructions.
Opening it and closing it the first couple of times was a bit of a chore.
Maybe I’m not great at instructions, and opening Model 4 didn’t seem intuitive to me.
But it’s easy and quick once you get the hang of it.
It checks all the boxes, and the price isn’t bad either.
Quality material and solid construction mean It’ll be around for a while.

Recommendation: More expensive than our top two picks, but a really nice cart. Give it a try. I think you’ll like it.
#5 Sun Mountain Pathfinder 3X (PX3) Push Cart
Good maneuverability with lightweight design and ample accessories storage.
Easy folding to small size with quality construction, though not quite as sturdy as Editor’s Pick. Intuitive opening with no pinch points.
Best for golfers wanting to save money with something lighter and less bulky.
- Good Maneuverability
- Lightweight
- Ample accessories storage
- Folds easily & small
- Built well, but not quite as well as Editor's Pick

The Sun Mountain PX3 makes our list.
What we like:
- Easy to open and close.
- Rolls and maneuvers well.
- Quality construction.
- Handy storage for your phone, balls, scorecard, tees, etc.
- Folds to a reasonably compact size.
- Umbrella holder is a lifesaver when it’s sunny and hot.
What we don’t like:
- Not quite as sturdy as our Editor’s Pick.
The PX3 was much easier to open and close on my first try. It’s intuitive and there are no real pinch points – unlike the Clicgear Model 4.
Putting your bag on couldn’t be easier, and the fastening system is easy and intuitive.
It rolls and maneuvers well and is stable.
Recommendation: Give the PX3 a try if you want to save a little money and want something just a tad lighter and less bulky.
#6 Sun Mountain Pathfinder 4X Golf Cart (PX4)
Good stability with decent maneuverability and ample accessory storage. Easy folding to compact size with quality construction.
Former #1 recommendation for 4-wheeled carts, though not as maneuverable as 3-wheeled options.
Best for golfers who prefer 4-wheel stability over maximum maneuverability.
- Good Stability
- Decent Maneuverability
- Ample accessory storage
- Folds easily & small
- Quality construction
- Not quite as maneuverable

The Sun Mountain PX4 is our former #1 Recommendation 4-wheeled carts.
What we like:
- Easy to open and close.
- Quality construction.
- Handy storage for your phone, balls, scorecard, tees, etc.
- Folds to a reasonably compact size.
- Umbrella holder is a lifesaver when it’s sunny and hot
- Maneuvers well, just not as well as one-wheeled carts.
What we don’t like:
- Not as maneuverable as a 3-wheeled cart.
That’s it. It’s the same as the PX3 in virtually every other way, save the two-sided umbrella holder option on the handle area.
We’re picking a nit here. It rolls fine and you’ll get around the course great with it. But, the PX3 and Clicgear Model 4 do it a touch better.
Recommendation: Try it out. It’s a great pull cart and you may fall in love. Many have.
#7 Big Max Blade Trio Push Cart
Premium quality construction with easy opening/closing. Lightweight and folds flat for compact storage with ample storage and large cushioned handle.
Rolls well on flat terrain but awkward steering and less stable on slopes. Umbrella holder not included.
Best for flat courses or experienced push cart users who value aesthetics and flat-fold design.
- Premium Quality Construction
- Opens & Closes Easily
- Lightweight & Folds Flat
- Rolls well
- Ample storage
- Awkward steering & less stable rolling over slopes
- Umbrella holder not included

The Big Max Blade Trio is favorite push cart from Big Max.
What we like:
- Premium Quality Materials & Construction.
- Opens & Closes Easily.
- Lightweight & Folds Flat and compact for easy storage.
- Rolls well on flat terrain.
- Ample storage.
- Large cushioned handle.
What we don’t like:
- Awkward steering & less stable over slopes.
- Umbrella holder not included.
- You’ll have to buy all those high-quality accessories separately.
The Blade Trio is another handsome and well-made push cart from Big Max.
The aesthetics are great and the engineering are top notch. I only wish they handled better over hilly or uneven terrain.
It rolls well. It’s simple and easy to open and close. It’s got good storage for accessories. It folds away flat and compact.
I’d like Big Max to concentrate more on handling so I could brag on their carts more.
It’s not a bad cart, but a little too frustrating for me to operate.
To Be Fair: I don’t walk often, so maybe others won’t have the issues I did.
Read our full Big Max Blade Trio review for more details.
Recommendation: I recommend it for flat or flatter courses or for more experienced push cart handlers than me.
#8 Big Max Blade IP Golf Push Cart
Premium materials and construction with supremely easy opening/closing. Lightweight and folds flat for easy transport with minimal design aesthetics.
Poor maneuverability and stability on steep slopes requiring full attention. Umbrella holder and accessories sold separately.
Best for flat courses where aesthetics and minimal design matter more than all-terrain capability.
- Premium Quality Construction
- Opens & Closes Easily
- Lightweight & Folds Flat
- Awkward steering & less stable rolling over slopes
- Umbrella holder not included

The Big Max Blade IP is the first cart we tested from Big Max.
What we like:
- Premium materials and construction.
- Supremely easy to open and close.
- Rolls well on flat terrain.
- Large selection of high-quality accessories you can buy.
- Lightweight. Folds flat. Easy to transport.
- Reasonable price
What we don’t like:
- Poor maneuverability & stability on steeper slopes. (I almost lost this baby a few times)
- Umbrella holder not included.
- You’ll have to buy all those high-quality accessories separately.
I wanted to love the Blade IP…I like the Blade IP.
It’s definitely the coolest golf push cart I’ve tested. I love minimal design as a rule and the Blade IP is minimal, if anything.
It’s sleek, elegant, made of quality material, and constructed very well.
I wish it was a little more functional on the course and that it came with an umbrella holder. I live in Houston where it’s hot and sunny a LOT.
An umbrella in an umbrella holder on my push cart is non-negotiable for me when I’m walking in the Summer. (Sun damage and skin cancer ain’t no joke)
You can grab theirs for about $35. Big Max has a TON of cool accessories for their push carts.
The Blade IP required my full attention when pushing it around my course. We have a lot of steep and subtle slopes. My hands and arms stayed engaged to steer it well.
To be fair – I don’t use push carts often. A more experienced user may maneuver the IP with much less effort.
Read our full Big Max Blade IP review for more details.
Recommendation: I think it’s better for flat or flatter courses than the one I play. At least for novice golf push cart users. (like me)
What to Look For in a Golf Push Cart
Quality push carts vary significantly in construction, features, and usability. Focus on these key factors:
Build Quality & Materials
Premium materials and solid construction determine longevity. Look for:
- Aluminum or quality steel frames (not thin steel tubing)
- Solid wheel construction with quality bearings
- Reinforced stress points at joints
- Quality fasteners and hardware
Push carts from Bag Boy, Clicgear, and Sun Mountain consistently use premium materials. Big Max offers exceptional build quality but may sacrifice some functionality.
Roll & Maneuverability
Your push cart must roll smoothly over various terrainโflat fairways, uphill climbs, downhill slopes, and side hills.
Key features:
- Large wheels (10″+ diameter) for better rolling over obstacles
- Quality bearings for smooth operation
- Swiveling front wheel for 3-wheel models (highly recommended)
- Wide wheelbase for stability
- Responsive steering without excessive effort
Test rolling the cart before buying if possible. The difference between good and great rolling is immediately noticeable.
Opening, Closing & Storage
You’ll open and close your cart every round. Poor designs create frustration.
Look for:
- Intuitive opening/closing without consulting instructions
- No pinch points that catch fingers
- Opens fully with minimal steps (1-2 steps ideal)
- Folds to compact size for car trunk storage
- Lightweight enough to lift into vehicle (under 20 lbs preferred)
Bag Boy carts excel here with intuitive operation. Clicgear carts have learning curves but become easy with practice.
Stability
Stability matters more than most golfers realize, especially on sloped terrain.
Consider:
- Wide wheelbase prevents tipping on side slopes
- Low center of gravity when bag is mounted
- Quality bag securing system (straps or Top-Lock)
- Brake system for parking (foot brake or hand brake)
The Bag Boy Nitron Auto-Open offers exceptional stability from its wide base design.
Storage & Accessories
Sufficient storage keeps essentials accessible without cluttering your bag.
Essential storage:
- Large accessory compartment for rangefinder, phone, wallet, keys
- Beverage holder (preferably insulated)
- Ball storage for 3+ balls
- Scorecard holder
- Umbrella holder (critical in sunny/rainy climates)
Bonus accessories:
- GPS/phone mount
- Seat attachment
- Sand bottle holder
- Extra beverage holders
Value Consideration
Quality push carts are premium investments, typically ranging from $225 to $350+. These carts last 5-10+ years with proper care, making them worthwhile investments for regular walkers who want reliability and performance round after round.
3-Wheel vs 4-Wheel Push Carts
Choosing between 3-wheel and 4-wheel push carts depends on your course terrain, storage needs, and maneuvering preferences.
3-Wheel Push Carts
Advantages:
- Superior maneuverability, especially with swiveling front wheel.
- Easier to navigate tight spaces and sharp turns.
- Typically lighter weight.
- Better for hilly or sloped terrain.
- Most models fold more compactly.
Disadvantages:
- Slightly less stable than 4-wheel carts on severe side slopes.
- Requires more active steering.
Best 3-Wheel Options:
- Bag Boy Nitron Auto-Open: Most stable 3-wheel with auto-open
- Clicgear Rovic Swivel RV1s: Best value with excellent maneuverability
- Sun Mountain PX3: Lightweight budget option
4-Wheel Push Carts
Advantages:
- Maximum stability on all terrain types.
- Less active steering required.
- Better for beginners or those wanting set-it-and-forget-it operation.
- Typically more stable when parked.
Disadvantages:
- Less maneuverable than 3-wheel carts.
- Harder to navigate tight spaces.
- Usually slightly heavier.
- May not fold as compactly.
Best 4-Wheel Options:
- Bag Boy Quad Pro: Premium 4-wheel with Top-Lock system
- Clicgear Model 4: Proven quality with ample storage
- Sun Mountain PX4: Solid value option
Our Recommendation
Choose 3-wheel carts with swiveling front wheels for best all-around performance. They offer superior maneuverability without sacrificing much stability, especially models like the Bag Boy Nitron Auto-Open with wide-base design.
Choose 4-wheel carts if you play extremely hilly courses with severe side slopes, are new to push carts, or want maximum stability when parked.
