Best Putters for Beginners in 2022

Cobra King 3d Agera - Great Putter for Beginners

This is our review of the best putters for beginners & high handicappers in 2022.

Attributes I like to see in beginner putters

  1. Forgiveness (at least a little)
  2. Easy to align

The good news is golf club manufacturers don’t make unforgiving putters anymore.
The bad news is they don’t give them away, either.

So it comes down to whatever putter works with your stroke, personal preference, and how much you are willing to spend.

In this best putters for beginners review we discuss, benefits and features, our recommendations, and any deals or discounts I can negotiate.

Our 5 Best Putters for Beginners in 2022

  1. Cobra King 3D Agera (Editor’s Pick – Mallet) Most Forgiving
  2. Taylormade Spider S (1st Runner Up – Mallet) Forgiving – Easy to align
  3. Odyssey 2-Ball Ten Lined (2nd Runner Up- Mallet) Forgiving – Easy to align

The Cobra King 3D Agera does two things very well:

  1. Remains extremely stable at impact to keep your ball rolling on line
  2. Rolls the ball consistently no matter your angle of attack at contact

Together, they mean supreme forgiveness and better results on every stroke. Especially on lag putts, where distance control is crucial.

Credit the 3D printed lattice cartridge, steel chassis, forged aluminum crown, and 4 tungsten weights for the high MOI (stability & forgiveness).

And, credit the collaboration with SIK putters for Descending Loft Technology (DLT) to produce consistent launch (yes, the ball launches, not rolls, immediately when it leaves the putter face) whether you have a descending, neutral, or ascending stroke.

Customer Reviews: The main attribute buyers speak of is how easy this putter makes putting.

This is a steep investment for the beginner golfer, no doubt. But, its worth a look if you’ve got the money.

I’ve been a fan and user of Taylormade putters since they introduced the Spider line a few years ago.

They feel great, get the ball rolling well, and have a good bit of forgiveness.

The Spider S  is part of the latest generation of those putters. SR = Stability Refined. Taylormade makes the Spider S stable in a couple ways

  • The double wing design helps distribute weight in a way that increases MOI (always think stability and forgiveness when you see this). The wings have cast-in sole weights and two additional moveable tungsten weights to help optimize the MOI.

The Pure Roll inserts are still there to improve sound, feel, and roll with the 45-degree grooves, which get the ball rolling online faster.

played the original Odyssey 2-ball putter for years and putted great with it.

The Ten-series of putters are serious upgrades from those days. They are especially easy to align and are great at making up for mishits. The ball rolls true and toward your target with marginal contact. They have soft feel and have a muted sound off the face.

Hard to go wrong with an Odyssey putter, and especially a 2-ball putter.

Something to consider before you put your money down.

  • You do not need a brand new putter as a beginner…or any level of recreational golfer. There are tons of great used putters available at Global Golf and Callaway Golf Preowned and you can get them at significant savings.
    • Brands I trust most: Odyssey – Taylormade – Ping – Titleist

I do not believe in spending a bunch for a putter. That said, you will not ever “need” to replace your putter once you find one you like. So, you’ll be ok if you end up spending a little (or a lot) more than you like.

Verdict on the Best Putters for Beginners in 2022

Golf manufacturers do not rest on their laurels, so this list will be a moving target. Great news for us. Check back every so often to see if we’ve added anything new or booted a wedge from the list.

As always with our lists: We don’t believe you can go wrong with any of the choices presented here. All the manufacturers are well-respected and produce great wedges. As always, we recommend testing at least a little before you make your final decision.
