Scores are relative to the category. A lightweight quarter zip made for spring and fall is judged against other lightweight quarter zips, not against heavier cold-weather layers. So a 5 means it’s among the best of that type I’ve worn. It doesn’t mean it will keep you as warm as a winter pullover.
The list isn’t ranked by overall score alone. The overall score is the average of the five categories, but some categories carry more weight with me than others. Comfort carries a lot. So a quarter zip that scores a 5 for comfort can rank above one with a higher overall score.
How I Test Quarter Zips
I wear each quarter zip on the course and off it. The moment it gets cooler in Houston, I throw one on. On the course I’m paying attention to whether it restricts my swing, how the sleeves and bottom fit, and how the material feels. Off the course I’m looking at whether it still looks good away from golf.

Little pricey
No surprises here with the Doc quarter zip. I expect superb quality and great looking clothes, and that’s what they deliver.
I love pretty much every shade of blue, so I chose the Mac color. I also chose it because it will go with any color short or pants I’ll wear with it. Draddy doesn’t offer a large color selection with this style, but I like most of what they have.
Price: $$$
Bottom Line: Superb color, style, fit, and quality…at a price.

The Motion Performance quarter zip from Johnnie-O is best for Spring & Fall. This quarter zip is a little more fitted with a hemmed and elastic bottom. Color selection is strictly pastel, which I’m a fan of as it happens. So you’re set, if you are too.
Price: $$$
Bottom Line: Great fit and feel to go with premium materials and construction. And, at a reasonable price.

The Velocity quarter zip from Bad Birdie is best for Spring and Fall…like most selections on this page. Color selection for the Velocity leans dark, with three lighter color selections.

Bottom Line: Lightweight and thin. Perfect for lower 60s and upper 50s. Fits well and looks great. Not just for the golf course.

They don’t offer much at this point, but I can’t wait until they fill out their line.
The quarter zips I’ve worn are very well made with great design features that make playing in cooler weather more bearable. I speak specifically of the pouch in the front you can stick your hands in for warmth.

I hadn’t heard of Galway Bay until recently. I’m glad I found them.
What we like:

Unique collar design.
What we don’t like:
Limited color selection.
They have 3 quarter zip styles, all equally attractive.
I like the Doolin’s unique collar. The rest of the quarter zip is pretty standard. The material is light, so don’t expect it to keep you warm when the temp dips below just cool.

Bottom Line: High quality material and stylish. Great for merely cool days, not cold.
