To find the best golf hats for sun protection, I tested 12 (and counting) top-rated models from leading golf brands.
If you spend long days on the course—especially in sweltering sun like we get here in Houston—you know how important a good golf hat is.
Not just for comfort, but for real protection from harmful UV rays.
I’ve reached the point where staying sun-safe isn’t optional—it’s essential. (Honestly, I wish I’d started paying more attention to this 20 years ago…My dermatologist concurs.)
Only the 9 best made the final cut for this guide—and I’ll keep updating this list as I try more.
Each hat is rated based on:
- Sun protection.
- Comfort and ventilation.
- Quality of materials and construction.
- And yes, how it looks out on the course.

The Bad Birdie Sun Bucket Hat is the most stylish wide brim hat we’ve tried to date.
What we like:
- Lightweight, breathable and comfortable material.
- Great sun protection for the head and neck.
- Quality materials, construction and fit.
- Drawcord can be removed (which I did)
- Best looking big hat we’ve tested.
What we don’t like:
- I stuck it in my bag (not a great move) and it wrinkled.
Like the Adidas Wide Brim, the Sun Bucket hat comes in two sizes: S/M and L/XL.
I imagine my head is average size and I ordered the L/XL. It fits perfect.
You know I’m a fan of lightweight and breathable material if you’ve read my other reviews on this page.
The Sun Bucket hat is perfect for the blistering heat and sun here in Houston. I’ve already given it a workout and it will get more.
The brim is not quite as wide as our top pic, but it’s not far off and is wide enough in my estimation. Just be wary when the sun is at an angle.
Bottom line – The best looking bucket hat on the list. As comfortable as any and very good sun protection.

If you like bucket hats, you’ll love the Melin Hydro Caddy.
What we like:
- Really nicely made with high end materials.
- Lightweight and comfortable material.
- Good ventilation.
- Fits well
What we don’t like:
- Nada
Hat sizes: Small – Classic – XL
I got the classic and I like the way it fits.
The material is light and breathable, but it isn’t a flimsy hat at all.
It doesn’t give you full base of neck protection like a wide brim hat, but it’s not far off and does a fine job.
It works best when the sun his high in the sky and at less of an angle.
Bottom line – Good sun protection in a comfortable, good looking hat.
Taylormade Golf Eyelet Bucket Hat (New Editor’s Pick – Best Wide Brim Hat)

The Titleist Golf Eyelet hat is our new favorite wide brim golf hat.
What we like:
- Superb sun protection – The wide brim provides good face, ears, and neck protection.
- Lightweight, comfortable, breathable.
- Quality construction and good fit.
- Clip-on drawstring is easily removable and unique.
What we don’t like:
- Nada (I used to gig wide brim hats for looks. Not anymore. We all know what we’re getting into.)
This is a newish hat, so not many customer reviews. The few complaints I read had nothing to do with the quality of the hat. It was style complaints or size complaints. Specifically, one guy said he needed an extra large, which they don’t make.
It’s not as sturdy as the Titleist Aussie hat, which can be good or bad. Personally, I prefer the the lighter and more malleable
Bottom line – You get tons of sun protection and it’s comfortable, lightweight, and breathable.
Adidas Golf Men’s Standard UPF Sun Hat

The Adidas Standard UPF sun hat is next.
What we like:
- The wide brim provides good face, ears, and neck protection.
- The material is soft, comfortable, and light which allows a little better airflow.
- Quality construction.
- Best looking big hat we’ve tested.
What we don’t like:
- Runs small. I got the L/XL and it barely fits me.
The bulk of the complaints I’ve read online relate to sizing issues.
The hat comes in two sizes – S/M (small/medium) & L/XL (large/ extra large). And, they both run a little small.
The S/M fit me too snugly. I simply returned the hat for the Large/X-large. (though it too, fits snugly)
Admittedly, size options are limited, but that’s a company complaint in my book. Not about the product itself.
Bottom line – You’ll love it if it fits. Best if you’re looking for max sun protection.
Titleist All Tour Aussie Golf Hat (Former Editor’s Pick – Best Wide Brim Hat)

The Titleist Aussie golf hat is a perennial top pick for wide brim hats with max sun protection.
What we like:
- The wide brim provides good face, ears, and neck protection.
- Soft, lightweight, and comfortable material with good.
- Quality construction and good fit.
- Can cinch the headband for a tighter fit.
What we don’t like:
- Not the best looking.
- Drawstring (which is easily removable and replaced).
- Not the best airflow
Most of the complaints center around one basic fact – it’s not as good as the prior model. I’ll have to take their word for it. I never tried the older model.
- That being said, this is a highly-rated hat and I agree with the high ratings.
It fits great, feels great, and provides good protection for your head, neck, hears, and face.
I’m just not a large fan of how it looks. A small quibble.
Bottom line – You’ll love the way it performs if you like the way it looks. Best if you’re looking for max sun protection.

The Adidas Men’s Victory 4 bucket hat is next on our list.
What we like:
- Good, but not complete head protection. Most of the face and neck are protected. Ears are completely covered.
- Soft, lightweight, comfortable material with excellent ventilation.
- Quality construction and good fit.
What we don’t like:
- Drawstring. Had to cut it off. (I can’t stand them when golfing)
- Runs ever-so-slightly small
There are two sizes: S/M & L/XL
- I ordered the S/M (small/medium). I can wear it and it will likely stretch with time. But, I would like it maybe 1/8 inch or so bigger.
I love the material, lightweight comfort, and ventilation of this hat.
It doesn’t have the complete protection of the biggest hats, but it does a good job when the sun is highest in the sky. (Mid-day, not morning or late afternoon sun)
Like seemingly all Adidas hats specializing in sun protection; size options are limited.
Bottom line – Lightweight and comfortable. Best for mid-day sun protection.

The Adidas Men’s Victory 3 bucket hat is next to make our list.
What we like:
- Good, but not complete head protection. Most of the face and neck are protected. Ears are completely covered.
- Soft, lightweight, comfortable material with excellent ventilation.
- Quality construction and good fit.
What we don’t like:
- Drawstring. Had to cut it off. (I can’t stand them when golfing)
- Runs ever-so-slightly small
There are two sizes: S/M & L/XL
- I ordered the S/M (small/medium) and had to return it for the L/XL (large/extra large).
The S/M was really snug for me and the L/XL fits perfectly. The material is lightweight, comfortable and breathable with excellent ventilation. The brim is firm but not rigid so I can easily stick it in the side pocket of my golf bag.
Great for mid-day when the sun is highest in the sky. Your lower neck and face will be pretty exposed in the early morning or late afternoon sun.
This is the Victory 4 but with a very slight cosmetic difference and the sizes run smaller.
Like seemingly all Adidas hats specializing in sun protection; size options are limited.
Bottom line – Like the Victory 4, it’s a lightweight and comfortable hat that’ll serve you well in the worst of the Summer sun and heat. Best for mid-day sun protection.

The Callaway Men’s bucket hat is one of the more stylish options on the page.
What we like:
- Good, but not complete head protection. Most of the face and neck are protected. Ears are completely covered.
- Soft, lightweight, comfortable material with good ventilation.
- Quality construction and good fit.
- Another classic-looking bucket hat.
What we don’t like:
- Incomplete face and neck protection in the early morning or late afternoon sun. (think angles)
The Callaway bucket hat is the best-constructed or dressiest hat on the list. Really nice construction and quality materials.
This hat also comes in two sizes: S/M (small/medium) and L/XL (large/extra large). I ordered the S/M and it fits perfectly. In fact, it’s one of my favorite hats of the bunch – based on looks alone. (though, I’m starting to get sweet on the Bridgestone Liberty)
It’s light and comfortable with good ventilation. I ordered the white so my main concern is staining it. I don’t do well with white clothes.
This is another great-for-mid-day hat when the sun is highest in the sky. Not so much late morning or late afternoon. Your lower neck and face will be pretty exposed in the early morning or late afternoon sun.
Bottom line – Comfortable, with a classic bucket hat look. Best for mid-day sun protection.

Final Verdict
When it comes to protecting your face, ears, and neck from the sun—without sacrificing comfort or performance—the Adidas Wide Brim Bucket Hat stands out as the top choice in 2026.
It checks all the boxes:
- Excellent sun coverage.
- Lightweight and breathable.
- Quality construction.
- Best sizing options of the bunch.
That combination made it the clear winner in a strong lineup.
But every hat on this list earned its spot. If you’re leaning more toward a stylish look or a classic bucket hat vibe, one of the Titleist or Bridgestone picks may suit you better.
Bottom line: Prioritize fit and coverage for your needs. When you find a hat that delivers both, you’ll actually want to wear it—and that’s where the real sun protection happens.
