This is Golfer Geeks’ 2024 TaylorMade P770 irons review.

I’m an avid golfer, 8ish handicap on my way to a 2 (been a 5.6) and frequent tester of golf clubs and equipment since 2015.

Summary: The 2024 TaylorMade P770 irons launch the ball quickly, on a high trajectory, have consistent distance, and ample forgiveness. They’re great out of the rough. The long irons are hittable. Sound and feel are superb. And they’re the best looking irons I’ve seen in a while.

In this review of the 2024 P770 irons, I discuss my experience with the clubs, their unique features and benefits, customer reviews, and potential alternatives.

Looks: (A) Gorgeous. Better than the already good looking prior model. Heads are compact, but not small. Topline and sole or thick. Frame the ball beautifully at address.

Sound/ Feel: (A) Nailed it. Soft and solid. Exactly how I like it.

Distance: (A) PW through 8-iron are true to their loft. I got a solid extra 10-yards starting with the 7-iron thanks to the ever-present “Speed Pocket”.

Forgiveness: (A) Good margin of error, but you can’t be undisciplined and expect good results. The long irons provide extra help with launch. Perform well out of the rough, too.

Flight / Playability: (A) They go high and straight by default, but I played my normal baby draw with them. I could flight them down and take distance off with ease.

Value: (B) ~$200/club. Looks like the new norm for premium irons.

My Experience with the New P770s

Range Sessions – 2
Launch Monitor sessions – 2
Rounds of Golf – 1

The 2024 P770 irons performed exactly as they were designed and exactly as I expected they would.

First, I love the feel and sound. Soft, solid, and muted at impact. Maybe just a notch behind Mizunos.

The ball jumps off the face on a nice high trajectory. But the distance is consistent and controllable. They’re also consistent out of the rough.

The long irons offer help with launch, as you would expect.

I’m not sure there’s a big jump in performance over the prior P770s. Then again, there wasn’t much to improve.

Bottom line: They deliver exactly what you want out of a player’s performance iron.

Customer Reviews

  • 11 reviews as of now. All 5-star and all would recommend the 2024 p770s to a friend.(1)

Who are the 2024 P770 irons for?

2024 p770 irons

Low handicaps: (Yep) These are for the high end of the low handicap range. But any low handicap can certainly play these.
Mid handicaps: (Maybe) I think you need to be a pretty good ball striker. The P790s might be more your speed. (Also check out the Qi irons)
High handicaps: (No) Get thee to the TaylorMade Qi irons. They’re made just for you.

Potential Alternatives

Callaway Apex Ai200 irons — Same stellar feel and performance, but longer due to jacked lofts.

Titleist T200 Irons – Superb performance and stunning looks.

Mizuno JPX 923 Forged irons – Best sound and feel in the game matched only by their performance. Get them while you can.

Final Verdict

The 2024 TaylorMade P770 irons hit their mark.

  • Solid controllable distance on short and mid irons.
  • Extra help with launch and distance starting with the 7-iron.
  • Ample forgiveness.
  • The ball flies high and straight by default but can be shaped and flighted as needed.
  • Superb sound and feel

I love these for players looking for a touch more forgiveness and a little help with launch and distance.

As usual…

My #1 suggestion is to get your hands on them before you buy. Either at your local golf store or take advantage of Global Golf’s Utry trial program. I use it and recommend it.
