This is Golfer Geeks’ Callaway Apex Ai200 irons review. I tested the combo set.

Summary: Callaway Apex Ai200 irons are near perfect player distance irons. They launch the ball quickly and easily. They fly high and with excellent distance. Forgiveness is ample and they perform almost as well from the rough as they do from the fairway. Callaway nailed it.

Launch Monitor Data
NOTE: I hit long irons horribly off of my mat and the Apex Ai200 5-iron was no exception. The numbers on the chart are indicative of me, not Apex i200 irons.

Performance Review
Category | Grade |
---|---|
Looks | A |
Sound/Feel | A |
Distance | A+ |
Forgiveness | A |
Flight/Playability | A |
Value | B |
Looks: (A) I like the head shape, I like the cosmetics, and like the finish. I wouldn’t mind a sleeker clubhead. But their performance overcomes any issues with looks.
Sound/ Feel: (A) Stellar. Soft and solid with zero harshness. A very welcome surprise.
Distance: (A+) Lofts are a full club stronger and they can go longer than that when you catch them.
Forgiveness: (A) Good forgiveness and they never feel harsh on mishits. Appropriate punishment for the severity of the mishit.
Flight / Playability: (A) Short and mid irons go plenty high, even out of the rough. Long irons get up well too. I played my usual high baby draw for most shots.
Value: (B) ~$200/club. Not cheap.
My Experience with the Ai200s
Range Sessions – 1
Launch Monitor sessions – 2
Rounds of Golf – 1
I figured the Ai200s out pretty quickly during my round. They are serious performers with premium sound and feel.
I’m working out my swing right now and I forced the Ai200s to cover for me a lot. They did so admirably.
They launch the ball quickly on a high penetrating trajectory, which I prefer. The long irons are the most hittable I’ve experienced in a while.
I found consistent ball flight, distance, and green holding out of the rough too.
Ball flight and sound and feel are what stick with me.
You’ll need to adjust your yardage expectations with these too. Especially if you hit the sweet spot a lot. They really go, sometimes crazy distances.
I liked the Ai200s immediately.
Bottom line: Give these a try if you’re in the market. I think you’ll like what you see.
Customer Reviews
- Only 4 reviews as of now. All 5-star and all would recommend the i200s to a friend.
Who are the Apex Ai200s irons for?
Low handicaps: (Yep) They’re bulky for low single-digit handicaps. But, you can still play the shots.
Mid handicaps: (Yes, for some) I like them for up to about a 12 handicap or so.
High handicaps: (No) You’ll love the Callaway Apex Ai300s. You can read about them here.
Potential Alternatives
TaylorMade P790 irons — Similar playing characteristics and similar sound and feel.
Titleist T200 Irons – Easier to hit through the set. Launch easier and more forgiving.
Titleist T150 irons – Easier to elevate mid and long irons. Refined scoring clubs.
