Performance Review
Category | Grade |
---|---|
Looks | B+ |
Sound/Feel | A |
Distance | A |
Forgiveness | A |
Flight/Playability | A |
Value | A |
Looks: (B+) Compact, but not intimidating, clubheads. Thin topline and sole which are pleasing to the player’s eyes.
Clean, premium looking brushed metal finish. Clean and minimal badge in the cavity.
Sound/ Feel: (A+++) Best in the golf.
Distance: (A) Very long. More than what I expected from their loft.
Forgiveness: (B) There’s some. But, you need to acquaint yourself with the sweet spot to experience The Goods.
Flight / Playability: (A) High and straight are there for you. Shaping and flighting any which way you please are also available if you have the game.
Value: (B) ~$200/club. This is where their premium competitors are priced. I guess B is an appropriate grade.
My Experience with the JPX 925 Forged Irons
I know what to expect from Mizuno JPX Forged irons at this point in the game.
First, the 921’s blew me away.
Then the 923’s took their turn.
Now, I finally got a crack at the 925s as I’d been eyeing their release for a while.
The first range session was rather hasty. I got the box on Saturday just after lunch, opened the box, and jetted to the course.
The result? A well-deserved sub-mediocre range session.
Next, I hit the course with them the following Monday. Again, hastily as I saw open tee times and decided to take advantage.
So…
Straight to the tee box out of the car without a warm up.
I’m ok with this because I’m not really trying to score. I’m happy to score well, but it’s not a priority.
I want to hit the club(s) as often as possible to learn about them.
I spent the first two holes hacking, but somehow, making pars.
My swing came around starting on the third hole, a par 3.
It’s uphill and into the wind. The pin was on the back shelf of the green at about 172 yards, probably playing about 182ish.
I pulled the 7-iron and nailed it with a slight pull. It bounced off the hill left of the pin and rolled about 10 feet from the hole.
I managed a 2-putt from there.
I expect that 7-iron (Because it has the same loft as my 6-iron) to be a 175-yard club with zero wind. I didn’t pull a longer club because over the green is no bueno.
I knew when I hit it I’d have the distance.
It exploded off the face, went high, and had that feel I’m so accustomed to with Mizuno JPX Forged irons.
I spent the rest of the round hitting mostly mediocre shots with a few solid shots mixed in.
Here’s the deal…
JPX 925 Forged Irons handsomely reward center contact with beautiful postcard-worthy shots and heavenly sound and feel.
Even slight misses toward the toe came off nicely for me.
But, you can’t miss them more than that and expect them to perform, because they won’t.
They’re not punishing like blades and never feel harsh even on the worst mishits. You’ll just give up decent yards on mishits.
Bottom line: I’m in love, as usual. But, I had to discipline my swing play them well.
Who are JPX 925 Forged irons for?
Low handicaps: (Oui, Oui) They do it all, and the sound and feel will grab you.
Mid handicaps: (Maybe) Better mid handicaps that are strong ball strikers can give them a try. The Hot Metals are a likelier option.
High handicaps: (No & Way) Here’s your better options.
Potential Alternatives

- Explosive distance.
- Quick, high launch and trajectory.
- Can play all the shots.
Should you upgrade if you own the JPX 923s?
Nope. I don’t suggest that. Unless you hate them or have money burning a hole in your pocket.
As usual…
My #1 suggestion is to get your hands on them before you buy. Either at your local golf store or take advantage of Global Golf’s Utry trial program. I use it and recommend it.
