I’m an avid golfer, a 7ish handicap on my way to a 2 (been a 5.6) and frequent tester of golf clubs and equipment since 2015.
Quick Take: The Callaway Elyte driver delivers excellent distance and forgiveness with adjustable sole weights for shot shaping at $599, but offers no meaningful improvement over last year’s Ai Smoke Max.
Best for mid-to-high handicappers who haven’t upgraded recently, though mediocre cosmetics may turn off some players.

How Does the Callaway Elyte Driver Perform?
The Callaway Elyte driver excels at distance and forgiveness with high launch and good peak height.
The adjustable sole weight is particularly valuable for correcting ball flight—switching to the draw position can turn slices into playable fades.
Sound and feel are good on center contact. It keeps mishits playable except for the worst swings.
At this price point, it’s a solid performer across all categories. Distance won’t be your complaint with this club.

Bag Appeal: (3) I’m not a fan of the head shape or the crown cosmetics. The sole looks fine and the headcover is very nice.
Sound/ Feel: (4) Good sound and feel when you catch it.
Forgiveness: (4) Decent forgiveness. It kept all but my worst swings playable. I had an issue with slicing, so I moved the sole weight to the “draw” position and dialed in straighter shots.
Distance: (5) Plenty. This will not be the reason you don’t like this club.
Flight / Launch: (5) It launches plenty high with good peak height.

My Experience with The Elyte Driver
I hit a LOT of drives on three separate days at the range with the Callaway Elyte.
Three separate days of testing, in fact. This happens when my swing isn’t exactly “firing.”
Like with the Qi35 – which I tested at the same time – I pieced together enough good drives to go along with all the pretty bad and terrible ones.
At one point, likely from fatigue and/or hitting too many drives and losing my tempo, I started slicing off the planet.
I moved the sole weight from the neutral to draw position and smacked 2 or 3 right down the middle.
That’s a big tool to have when nothing else seems to be working.
I’m not a fan of the Elyte’s cosmetics, but I could play this driver.
Who Should Play the Callaway Elyte Driver?
The Callaway Elyte driver is designed for mid-to-high handicappers (0-20 handicap range) who want a balance of speed, forgiveness, and adjustability.
Low handicappers will likely prefer the Triple Diamond or Triple Diamond Max versions for more workability. High handicappers benefit from the generous sweet spot and adjustable weights for correcting ball flight.
Callaway calls it a “Total performance” driver and says it’s built for speed and forgiveness. (I tend to agree.)

What Are the Best Alternatives to the Callaway Elyte Driver?
Three alternatives with similar performance profiles:
- TaylorMade Qi10 ($399) – Classic looks with excellent performance for $200 less.
- Titleist GT2 ($649) – Explosive distance with premium aesthetics and forgiveness.
- Callaway Paradym Ai Smoke Max ($450) – Last year’s model with nearly identical performance at lower price.
Taylormade Qi10 – Superb performance. Classic head shape. Premium looks. ~$120 less than the Qi35.
Titleist GT2 – My current favorite driver. It’s got ample forgiveness, explosive distance, premium looks, and costs the same as the Triple Diamond Max.
