Callaway Apex Ti Fusion Irons Review – Tested On The Range & The Course

This is Golfer Geeks’ Callaway Apex Ti Fusion irons review. I tested the combo set.

I’m an avid golfer, 8ish handicap on my way to a 2 (been a 5.6) and frequent tester of golf clubs and equipment since 2015.

Performance Review

Looks: (A) Sleek and refined. I’m not the biggest fan of black irons, but Callaway pulls it off in spades with the Apex Ti Fusions. The head is compact and the topline and sole or appropriately thick for player performance irons.

Sound & Feel: (B) Solid and not “clicky” like many player distance irons. But, not as good as the Ai200s.

Distance: (C) I wasn’t able to consistently get my normal distances. I think they should be about 10-yards longer.

Forgiveness: (B) Good, but I found forgiveness maybe a notch behind the Ai200s.

Flight / Playability: (A) Good launch and trajectory. Decent shaping ability.

Value: (D) ~$335/club…oof

NOTE: As usual, I don’t hit long irons, starting with the 5 iron, well off of mats, especially when the 5-iron in question has 4-iron loft. You may as well ignore the 4-iron numbers, too.

My Experience with the Ti Fusions

I got around the course fine with them, but I consistently had trouble hitting my normal distances – when adjusting for the strong lofts of the club.

But, then again, I hit my distances fine sometimes. So, confusing.

They’ve got good sound and feel and decent playability. But, they don’t stack up to the new Apex Ai200s in distance, trajectory, or sound and feel. Plus, there ~$150 more per club.

I finished up testing on my launch monitor. Two sessions.

Try as I might, I could not get the distances I thought these irons should hit.

For example, the pitching wedge loft is 43 degrees – 1 degree weaker than my 9-iron. You can see above that my average distance was 133 yards with the Ti Fusion pitching wedge.

My average distance with my 42-degree blade iron is 145 yards. I figured the Ti Fusion should be within a couple of yards of that, but I never got close.

Take the 8-iron. The loft is 34.5 degrees. That’s a 7-iron in my set. My 7-iron carries 165 yards. I even pulled out the TaylorMade P7CB (34 degrees of loft) I’m currently testing. It also carried 165 yards for me. You can see the Ti Fusion is 7-yards shorter in the table above.

Bottom line: Good sound and feel. Good forgiveness. Good high trajectory. Lack distance.

Customer Reviews

Most, if not all, customers like the club’s performance (some even rave). But there are many complaints about the black finish wearing away within a day.

Who are the Apex Ti Fusion irons for?

Low handicaps: (Yep) You can, but there are better options.
Mid handicaps: (Maybe) Feel free to give them a test if you’re around a 10.
High handicaps: (Noooo) Get thee to the Apex Ai300s.

Potential Alternatives

Callaway Apex Ai200 irons – Superb performance and better sound and feel than the Ti Fusions. About $150 less per club.

2024 TaylorMade P770 irons — Stellar performance. Also, gorgeous. Great sound and feel.

Mizuno JPX 925 Hot Metal Irons – Superb performance. Best sound and feel in the game…year after year.

Final Verdict

Callaway Apex Ti Fusion are stellar player performance irons.

• Gorgeous.
• Good sound and feel.
• Launch well with high trajectory.
• Lack distance.
• Huge price.

I worry about the finish wearing away. That didn’t happen with me because I only had them a few weeks and they didn’t get much mat time.

As usual…

My #1 suggestion is to get your hands on them before you buy. Either at your local golf store or take advantage of Global Golf’s Utry trial program. I use it and recommend it.
