Callaway Apex Pro 19 Irons Review
Thanks for checking out my Callaway Apex Pro 19 irons review.
First, I'm a 10ish handicap and these irons are supposed to be too much club for me. That simply didn't turn out to be the case.
I nearly got down on one knee and proposed to the Apex Pros when I first took them out of the box.
I already liked how they looked in magazines and online, but seeing them in person was another level of appreciation. I'll explain below...
What Surprised Me...a little:
- Looks: These heads are Sleek, Shiny, and Beautiful. I'm officially a fan of more compact head designs. I experienced zero intimidation.
- Forgiveness: These are players, no doubt, but I didn't get brutalized for slight mishits so I didn't swing scared at any point.
Review in a Nutshell: Callaway Apex Pro 19 Irons
LOOKS | Sleek...Shiny...Player |
DISTANCE | As long as any I've tested. Easy power. |
FORGIVENESS | More than I expected from a player iron. Really good ball strikers can play these and you can never go wrong with a touch more forgiveness |
TRAJECTORY | The ball gets up...and fast. No ballooning. |
FEEL/SOUND | Just wonderful feel on well-struck shots. Really powerful and with a nice click on center-face contact |
VALUE | Very pricey for brand new clubs. No way around it. But, on par with others in its category. Can get an excellent deal at Callaway Golf Preowned, but with less customization. |
Make no mistake...the Apex Pros look "Player"...
But not in an intimidating way. At least not for me. I've been inching my way into smaller, sleeker club heads over the last 3-4 years with all the testing I've been doing.
Testing The Apex Pro 19s
On The Range: 4 Sessions
On The Course: 3 Rounds and a short range session to warm up
My Method of testing: When I get a full set to test, I take that set to the range or course and 1-3 clubs from my personal set to compare distance, trajectory, and workability.
The set I tested was 4-iron through A-wedge.
- My first time testing was on the course with no range session because it was Corona closed. I just pulled the club I would normally pull for the shot at hand.
- Once the range opened a couple days later, I did as described above.
Now onto the first round. First thing, the wind was howling the entire round. It was also changing directions constantly, or so it seemed. Pulling clubs was no picnic.
I also played under Corona rules, so no range time at all with Callaway Apex Pro 19s. My first chance to hit them was the second hole from about 134 yards into a pretty stiff breeze...
I pulled out the 9-iron, choked down, and hit a not quite full shot. The ball flight was medium hight and arrow straight. Me pleased
- the shot felt and sounded great.
- the ball flight just looked... good
So now on the third hole. It's a par 3 with about 198 yards to the pin and into the same wind from the second hole. I pulled the 4-iron on this one.
My swing and the contact were not great, but I flew the green just right of the pen...about 204 yards.
Can't say for sure why that happened. Maybe the wind switched or died for just a moment. Either way, it appears these clubs can move the ball.
And that indeed proved to be the case over the next couple rounds and range sessions.
They keep up with my Taylormade P790s, with just a touch less forgiveness.
Should You Buy The Callaway Apex Pro 19 Irons?
Low Handicap: 100% Buy...Unless you hate Callaway or Callaway irons.

High Handicap: No
