This is Golfer Geeks’ 2023 Callaway Apex Pro irons review.
I’m an avid golfer, 8-ish handicap on my way to a 2 (been a 5.6), and frequent tester of golf clubs and equipment since 2015.
I had the new Callaway Apex Pro 2024 irons for a week and a half. I spent ~13 hours with them on the course, on the rang, and on my hitting mat at home.
Summary: There are no surprises with new Apex Pros for 2024. The design is nicely upgraded and their performance is solid. They launch well with good distance and just enough forgiveness on minor mishits. I think Callaway fans will love these.
In this review of the 2024 Callaway Apex Pro irons, I discuss my experience with the clubs, unique features and benefits, as well as customer reviews and potential alternatives.
- Soft & Solid Feel
- Splash of Forgiveness
- Good Distance
- Nice Design
- Pricey
Why Consider the 2024 Callaway Apex Pro Irons
These are your clubs if you want player looks and performance with a touch more forgiveness and help with distance. (And a healthy wad to spend on them)
- The heads are compact and sleek and set up well behind the ball.
- Soft, solid, and muted feel at impact. Easy to tell where your mishits are too.
- High and straight was my default flight. But…
- You can play all the shots if you have that in your bag.
- Flight it down.
- Take something off.
- Turn it left or right.

My Experience with the Apex Pro irons
Rounds of golf – 2.5
Range work – 1 session (launch monitor included)
Golf mat & Golf net in the backyard – with launch monitor – 1 session
I still had the 2023 Titleist T100 and T150 irons, so I hit them all together for my first range session with the Apex Pros. (The Titleist 7-irons, to be specific)
No surprises for me hitting and playing the new 2024 Apex Pros. I’d hit my friend’s 2021 Apex Pros and figured these would feel and perform about the same. Which they did.
Again, I did not have my best stuff (a common theme for me this year) for my time with them. I made a lot of swings with marginal contact with a few solid shots mixed in here and there.
But, I was still able to score well decent (84, 85). (With no help from my short game)
Two shots stand out to me (because I hit them well). The third hole on my course is a 200-yard uphill par 3. I had a slight wind behind me so I pulled a 5-iron.
I pulled off one of my better swings that day and hit it on the screws.
I knew instantly that I caught it well and I watched it launch high with just a touch of draw – not quite enough, though. I finished pin high right of the green.
On the next hole – a dog-leg right par 4. I was in the fairway and 130 yards from the flag with that same breeze behind me. I pulled the pitching wedge and decided to play a controlled knock-down shot—a good shot for the situation and a good shot when my swing isn’t cooperating.
I pulled it off. The ball took off on a low-mid flight with a touch of draw and I finished 15 feet below the hole.
I wish I could report a bunch more good shots, but none come to mind.
In general, the 2024 Apex Pros went high and straight for me with solid contact and weren’t punishing on minor mishits. I just ended up on the front or just short of the green instead of around the pin.
I think they play accurate to their lofts.
Review of the 2024 Apex Pros
Looks: (A) Sleek and attractive. I like the brushed metal finish. And, I think they’re a nice upgrade over the last Apex Pros – which I also liked. The topline and sole aren’t as thin as some player irons, but, I’ve got no problem with it. Callaway made a nice improvement.
Sound/ Feel: (A) Soft, solid, and muted with good impact. No harshness on mishits or slight mishits.
Distance: (A) Plenty of distance, but not “hot.” I found distance matched their lofts well. They’re consistent and controllable.
Forgiveness: (A) Pretty much what I expected out of these. You’ve got some leeway for when your swing isn’t at its best.
Flight / Playability: (A) High and straight with solid impact. I was able to play my baby draw. I could flight them down and I could take a little off when in between clubs.
Value: (B) ~$215/club – Nice clubs, but this seems high. Low handicaps have better options.
Customer Reviews
There are four reviews as I write this. 3 people give them 5 stars and one very unhappy customer gives them 1-star.
Who are the 2024 Apex Pros for?
Low handicap: (Yes) They may not appeal to you if you’re below a 4 or so. Never hurts to test.
Mid handicap: (Maybe) Good ball strikers from a 12 handicap on down should take a look. Otherwise, check out these options.
High handicap: (No) Noooooo. Check out these options.

Our Verdict
Fans of Callaway player irons will love the Apex Pros. They’ve got a good combo of player attributes with additional forgiveness and help with distance.
My #1 suggestion is to test before you buy. Either at your local golf store or take advantage of Global Golf’s Utry trial program. I use it and recommend it.
