If you like the 60s throwback style, you’ll love how they perform.

Who Are They For?
Anyone who appreciates quality sunglass lenses and prefers a more stylish, retro aesthetic over sporty frames.
The Jotos excel in bright light conditions and perform very well in lower light too. Good contrast makes them a fine choice for the course.
Great for regular or smaller faces—they cling to your face without being tight. The 1960’s style frames work if that’s your thing. Not my favorite style, but not bad.
I wore them everywhere—driving, at the course, and walking around the neighborhood. They’re not sporty looking, which makes them versatile off the course.
Joto Carbon Lenses
The Carbon lenses are polarized TALEX lenses, handmade in Osaka, Japan.
Developed in collaboration with professional golfers, they feature a natural color base with enhanced warm contrast.
In full sun, they’re as good as any—reduced eye strain while maintaining exceptional clarity.
In overcast conditions, they performed well. Glare protection is equal to the Scheyden Loopers and other of our top pics.
The lenses don’t brighten your vision, but they don’t diminish it either, unlike some lesser competition.
They are exceptionally clear, reduce glare, and relieve eye strain.
Nothing really stands out, but that’s partially because I always wear sunglasses with very good lenses, so I’m used to excellence.
On the course, they performed well reading greens, tracking ball flight, and spotting hazards.
Colors are very good, not great. They don’t brighten colors like the Scheydens or Costas I’ve tested.
The Carbon lenses have a different tint—they don’t match the color accuracy or contrast of Scheyden Loopers, Costa Del Mar, or even Oakley. (They have other lens options I haven’t tried)
Maybe comparable to Revo Crawlers, though color accuracy and contrast still aren’t quite as good.

Joto Frames
The frames are Wellington-style—a classic shape from the 1960s and 70s. They’re made from double-molded nylon with metal details in the nose bridge and temples.
Very light and stay in place nicely. They cling to my head well without any pressure points.
The rubber nose bridge and temples provide excellent grip. Fit and finish are very good—well put together. I imagine they’d be durable if taken care of.
The Wellington shape with metal details gives them a classic 60s/70s aesthetic. More “stylish” than I’m used to—I typically go for more classic/sporty type sunglasses.
Best Alternatives
Scheyden Looper (Our Editor’s Pick) – Equal clarity, comfort, and glare protection. Better color accuracy and contrast than the Jotos.
The frames are bulkier with classic styling, though extremely well-made.

The Shinzo Tamura Jotos are premium sunglasses for golfers who appreciate quality lenses and retro styling.
Quality of materials and craftsmanship are excellent, backed by an exceptional 5-year warranty.
The 60’s Wellington styling is cool, though it won’t be for everyone.
They’re on the more expensive side at $275.
If you prefer better color accuracy and contrast, the Scheyden Loopers and Costa Del Mar Whitetips are worth a look.
If you dig the throwback look and want premium Japanese craftsmanship, these deliver.
