I’ve got 2 rounds, 4 hours on the range, and one session on a Foresight GC3 launch monitor with the Mizuno T22 Wedge.

Mizuno T22 Wedge Overview
When I think about Mizuno, I think about feel. Am I alone with this thought?
Mizuno, to me, should be buttery and smooth; the Mizuno T22 absolutely is. The HydroFlow Micro Grooves increase overall spin rates not just on those clean shots from the approach but also out of the thicker round.
The Spin Weighted Blade design brings the trajectory down just a little, putting you back in control.
- Translation- If you think Mizuno has some of the best feeling and spinning irons in the game, you haven’t seen it all until you try the wedges.
Why Consider the Mizuno T22
Two things made me want to test the Mizuno T22. The first is I wanted to see if the technology they put in their buttery Mizuno JPX irons translated to the wedges. The second is that prices started dropping on the T22, and I wanted to see if this was for lack of technology, feel, etc.
I can assure you the price drop has nothing to do with technology. In fact, go buy these while the pricing is still down.
The most significant benefits of the T22 include:
- Incredibly soft feel around the greens, even out of the bunker
- Not quite as thin looking as other blade style wedges, a good choice for golfers that want a slightly larger sweet spot
- Grooves that can impart spin even when wet or hitting out of the rough
- Relatively good distance control, especially in that 60 yard and under range

My Experience with the Mizuno T22 Wedge
I started by testing the Mizuno T22 on the Foresight GC3 launch monitor. With a 76 mph swing speed, I was getting pretty close to 90 yards with this wedge, some shots closer to 85 yards.
It’s not the longest wedge out there, but this one also had the Tour Issue S400 shaft, so it’s not the lightest.
Spin rates were my biggest concern with the T22. I know the HydroFlow grooves help with shorter shots, but I wanted to see the performance on the long ones.
- Full swing shots had spin rates ranging from 7800 to 8950.
- Shorter, half-swing type shots were in the 6000-7300 range.
Overall, it spins plenty. However, I was more impressed with the greenside spin than I was with the long wedge shot spin.
The only concern I had here was some inconsistency in spin rates.

Mizuno T22 numbers:
- 8900, 8400, 7900
Still good spin numbers, but a lot more inconsistency. (I’m aware there could be some user error here, but it’s a general trend I saw with this wedge).
On the course, the feel and precision of the T22 is fantastic. I love this wedge around the greens. The D grind allows for slight manipulation of the face, but I didn’t need to do much.
Out of the rough and the sand, the feel is so soft; I had full control over what happens to the ball.
Pair this wedge with a great golf ball (something that spins around the greens), and you will see some strokes gained around the greens.
Review of the Mizuno T22 Wedges
Looks: (A) Clean-looking wedge with classic styling; it’s a little rounder and not as sharp as some other wedges we tested.
Sound/ Feel: (A+) Exceptional, exactly what I want in a wedge, and that pure buttery feel that Mizuno is known for.
Distance and Distance Control: (A) Great from 60 yards and in. Again, it didn’t feel quite as sharp on the full-swing shots; it could be the D grind specifications I tested.
Forgiveness: (B+) Still a blade-style wedge from Mizuno, it’s not built to help you with shots you miss around the green; it’s there to make you even more precise.
Spin: (A+) Very good spin rates, especially on those 50 yards and in shots that really make the difference on the course.
Consistency: (B) Spin rates bounced around a little when testing on full swing shots; consistency with the feel and shorter shots around the green is great; for longer shots, there were higher discrepancies in spin rates from one shot to the next.
Value: (A+) Recent price drops make this one a really good upgrade for anyone in the market for a better feeling, highly reactive feel around the greens.

Who are the Mizuno T22 wedges for?
Low handicap: (Maybe) Not as refined or consistent as the Titleist SM9 or even the Jaws Raw.
Mid handicap: (Yes) The perfect wedge for the mid handicapper, soft feel, plenty of spn, and really good distance control.
High handicap: (Yes) Even though forgiveness isn’t great, around the greens, the T22 has a ton to offer the higher handicap golfers.

Our Verdict on the Mizuno T22 Wedge Review
The Mizuno T22 wedge may not have had the best numbers from a launch monitor perspective, but on the golf course, the performance was 100% there.
I really like the Mizuno T22 feel, sound, and spin rates. In addition, distance control was good on those really tricky shots in that 30-40-yard range. If you know that short game is a weakness for you, let the Mizuno T22 pull you out of the slump.
Our #1 suggestion is to get your hands on it before you buy. Either at your local golf store or take advantage of Global Golf’s Utry trial program. I use it and recommend it.
