This is our Bag Boy Freestyle travel cover review.

I’m an avid golfer, a 6ish handicap on my way to a 2 (been a 5.6) and frequent tester of golf clubs and equipment since 2015.

Note: Check out our best golf bags list for what goes inside it.

Quick Take

The Bag Boy Freestyle travel cover has superb functionality combined with excellent build quality and materials. It’s got room for ALL your golf stuff and more.

It secures your clubs well and is a cinch to move around with the six wheel configuration in the base and multiple sturdy handles to pull or push it around as you please.

Best For

Any golfer who wants a high quality, handsome bag that protects your clubs well, is highly maneuverable, and won’t break the bank.

Considerations

Nada — this thing is as advertised.

The Verdict

The Bag Boy Freestyle travel cover did exactly what I wanted it to do.

It was easy to put my clubs in and secure them with the internal strap. I had TONS of extra room in there to stick in stuff that didn’t fit in my suitcase — a bunch of extra shoes: mine, kids, and wifey.

It’s got an exterior compartment for your golf shoes.

It stands up easily and is stable thanks to the hard, six-wheeled base. It’s got multiple heavy duty straps so you can maneuver the bag nearly any which way you please.

You can lock the dual zippers together for added protection.

It also folds up compact for easy storage.

This is only the second golf travel bag I’ve owned and used and it couldn’t have been easier or less of a headache.

Bag & Club Protection

Internal strap securing a golf bag inside the Bag Boy Freestyle travel cover

Sure, a hard shell is more invulnerable, but the Freestyle did a fine job for my precious clubs.

(I say precious because I really take care of my clubs.)

The “soft” top has a solid enough internal structure that it would take some serious baggage mishandling to get through it to the clubs underneath.

It doesn’t collapse on the clubs and bag underneath. It forms a shell around its golfing cargo. This protective shell goes from the base of the bag to the tippy-top where the zipper pulls meet.

At no point did I worry about the bag and clubs within it.

Weight & Maneuverability

The six-wheel base of the Bag Boy Freestyle travel cover

The bag “feels” substantial. It’s just shy of 10 lbs, but is largely unnoticed once your clubs are loaded in it.

The six-wheel configuration means you’ll be rolling it upright or pulling it behind you.

I only got crossed up a couple times rolling it upright.

Materials & Build Quality

Rugged and quality material with excellent fit and finish. Like the golf bags, the travel cover is well-constructed and will be around for a while. The corners are also reinforced for extra protection.

Other Storage

The interior of the travel cover itself is quite roomy. I stuck extra shoes and anything else that wouldn’t easily fit in our suitcases in there. There’s also an interior net-compartment.

The oversized shoe compartment is on the exterior and easily fit my golf shoes.

Fit & Sizing

I’ve got a hybrid golf bag that’s on the more substantial side and it easily fits in the Freestyle travel cover. I think it’d take a large bag to have any type of issue in this regard.

Value

I think it’s a solid value considering what it’s protecting inside, namely a couple thousand dollars worth of golf clubs and bag. It’s likely not the best out there, but it’s more than good enough for most of us.

Customer Reviews

It’s a fairly new bag and it had exactly one review. That review happens to be 5-stars. It echoes everything I’ve said above.(1)

Best Alternatives

Note: This is my opinion of the best alternatives based on customer reviews and brands I trust. I have NOT tested this travel cover.

Sun Mountain Clubglider 3 – this thing looks like a beast. It’s made of abrasion-resistant polyester and has a moisture resistant film. The interior is velour for extra club protection. Even the zippers are beefed up. It also happens to have a kickstand.
