This is Golfer Geeks’ review of the 2022 Taylormade Stealth HD driver

I’m an avid golfer, a 9.2 7 handicap on my way to a 2 (been a 5.6) and frequent tester of golf clubs and equipment since 2015.

I tested the Stealth HD on the range and on the course over two weeks. I used my Swingcaddie SC300 launch monitor while on the range.

Summary: The Stealth HD performed as well for me as the Stealth & Stealth Plus. Plenty forgiveness. Plenty distance. Fought to keep me in play.

In this Taylormade Stealth HD driver review, I discuss my experience with the club, unique features and benefits, as well as customer reviews and potential alternatives.

Taylormade Stealth HD Driver Overview

The Stealth HD has many of the same features and playing characteristics as other Stealth models. It’s long, forgiving, and easy to hit. It’s designed to deliver a draw bias while maintaining the forgiveness Stealth drivers are known for.

Club Tested Specs:

Loft – 10.5 degree

Shaft – Fujikura Air Speeder 45 Graphite Stiff Flex

Stealth spin, launch, and flight characteristics

  • Mid spin
  • High launch
  • Highest forgiveness
  • Draw flight bias

Why Consider the Stealth HD Driver

I’m a single-digit handicap with driver swing speeds 105 mph and above, but I’m inconsistent with the driver.

Any and every decent swing was rewarded with a long drive down the fairway or at least with a good look at the green.

The Stealth HD will work just fine for 98% of golfers out there. The other two percent are elite drivers with elite speed and likely prefer a lower launch, lower spin driver.

Features & Benefits

1) 60X Carbon Twist Face

  • Better energy transfer (Hotter Face)
  • More forgiving
  • Increased the effective hitting area by increasing the size of the face and clubheadIncreases accuracy and distance on off-center hits.
  • Provides better feel on shots hit across the face

2) Asymmetric Inertial Generator

  • Better aerodynamics just before impact (where Taylormade says it’s needed for increased clubhead speed
  • Allows additional weight to be placed for higher MOI, optimal launch, better forgiveness

3) High-Draw Design

  • The inertia generator is shifted towards the heel to maintain forgiveness and give a slight draw bias.

4) Nanotexture Cover & Polyurethane

  • Nanotexture creates face texture with more friction at impact
  • Polyurethane used to fine tune launch and spin, and optimize total distance

5) Premium Sound

  • Taylormade says sound is an important component in feel so they used curvature, shape, and internal stiffening ribs to dial in acoustics.

My Experience with the Stealth HD

I tested the Stealth HD over 3 range sessions and 1 round on the course

I tested it at the same time at the Stealth Plus and Cobra Radspeed XB (only for the last session).

My swing wasn’t in the best of shape for much of my testing, but the HD performed well during my round on the course. I was hitting long straight drives with the occasional draw.

Review of the Taylormade Stealth HD Driver

Looks (A)

I like mat finishes on woods and the mat black finish on the Stealth HD works for me. The red carbonwood face stands out and looks cool to me. The head is 460cc, but Taylormade managed to make it seem a bit smaller. It sits behind and frames the ball well at address.

The sole is fine, but nothing to write home about.

Sound/ Feel (A+)

Great muted sound on contact, similar to the SIM2. The face feels a bit softer because of the polyurethane and carbon layer design.

Distance (A+)

Excellent distance. (My average numbers in the table below this section)

Forgiveness (A)

A lot. Only my worst swings kept me from advancing the ball toward the green.

Flight (A)

Good swings resulted in medium-high to high draws or slight pushes.

Our Verdict

The Stealth HD is a long and forgiving driver and you’d be happy to play it every day. Especially if you need just a little more help moving the ball left or keeping it from going right. (for right-handers)

My #1 suggestion is to test before you buy. Either at your local golf store or take advantage of Global Golf’s Utry trial program. I use it and recommend it.
