This is Golfer Geeks’ Takomo Ignis D2 driver review.
I’m an avid golfer, 6ish handicap (on my way to a 2), and a frequent tester of golf clubs and golf products since 2015.
I’ve been playing the Ignis D2 driver for a good 2 months or so. I also tested it on the range and on my launch monitor.
The Takomo Ignis D2 driver is long and forgiving. My two favorite things in a driver. It also launches well and has good sound and feel.

Best For
Bargain-minded golfers who prioritize forgiveness, good distance, and more playable drives.
Considerations
Limited shaft and grip options.
I had mixed feelings before testing the Ignis D2 driver because I had mixed results with their fairway woods. (I quite liked the 5-wood and would pass on the 3-wood).
My very first swing with the D2 driver was a piped medium-high draw down the middle of the fairway to the tune of 302 yards. (More on this below)
I had reasonably high hopes after that!
It felt solid and a little soft, which is my preferred feel in irons and drivers. I’d add springiness, too. Kind of the feeling I get from Ping drivers.
You do not need your best stuff to play this driver either. It will save you, as it saved me, when you’re a little off. Both with direction and distance.
And, at $329 currently, it may be the best value in drivers in the game.

Overview & Why You Should Consider the Ignis D2
Consistency and forgiveness - Two things I always prioritize in a driver.
The Ignis D2 is Takomo’s redesigned flagship driver. (Formerly the D1 - which I never met)
It has a titanium body under a carbon fiber crown, and a single weight port replaces the D1’s setup. Takomo says the weight saved there moves to the heel, toe and back of the head to improve MOI, which should make the driver easier to launch and more forgiving on mishits.
It comes in 9° and 10.5° lofts, with an adjustable hosel, a neutral face and a 45.75" stock length. The shaft is a Fujikura Ventus Blue or Red. A headcover, wrench and spare 8g weight come in the box.
Takomo aims it at mid to high handicappers. I think it’s great for anyone wanting more playable drives.
You do not need your best stuff to play this driver. It saved me when I was a little off, both with direction and distance. It launched medium high for me with good carry, and it felt solid and a little soft.
Takomo Ignis D2 Review

| Category | Grade |
|---|---|
| Looks | 3.5 |
| Sound & Feel | 4 |
| Distance | 4 |
| Forgiveness | 4 |
| Launch & Flight | 4 |
| Value | 5 |
Looks (3.5) It may be even more minimal than Titleist drivers. I like the head shape and I really like how it frames the ball at address. The crown is a dull brownish color with the obligatory carbon weave pattern nearly every driver on earth has. The orange accent in the rear sole is interesting. I guess that’s its only purpose.
Distance (4) I found it plenty long. A number of customer reviews mention it’s not as long as the Ignis D1 - a club I never tested, so I can’t address that claim.
Sound & Feel (4) Nice. Solid and a little soft.
Launch & Flight (4) It launched medium high for me with good carry.
Forgiveness (4) I think this is where it shines. Without trying, I test the forgiveness of every driver every time I play. The Ignis D2 performed admirably.
Value (5) The $329 price tag is less than you pay for most premium fairway woods these days. A great price if all you want is to hit fairways and get good distance.
My Experience with the Ignis D2

As mentioned above, my first drive with the D2 was a dream. No driving range. No warm up. Just a hammered drive down center lane to the tune of 302 yards.
Now, I did not do that on every drive, but I sure did it on enough to be impressed with the D2.
Though, I was longer - 312 yards - on the very next hole. But, I pushed right of the fairway and left myself with a clear shot to the green.
To date, I’ve played about 4 rounds with the D2 and they’ve all been pretty effortless. Meaning, I made no major adjustments from the way I generally plan my way around the course with a driver.
My everyday driver is the Titleist GT2 - a phenomenal driver.
The D2 ain’t phenomenal, but it’s certainly good enough for me to recommend.
Bottom line: It will correct for all but your worst swings. Hit it solid and it really starts to sing.
Who Should Play the Ignis D2 Driver?

Takomo says they’re mid and high handicappers. As I said above, I’d add me to that list. Or, any golfer who’s inconsistent off the tee. The D2 will take some stress off your game.
Low handicaps (Yes) You certainly can. Though, I feel the limited shaft selection might slow your roll if you’re an elite driver or have a swing over 110 mph. It worked fine for me.
Mid handicaps (Yes) Exactly the driver you should be thinking of.
High handicaps (Yes) Absotively for you.
Customer Reviews
The Ignis D2 has an average rating of 4.6 with 115 reviews in. A consistent complaint was a loss of distance and less adjustability compared to the Ignis D1: (1)
On the positive side:
- Forgiveness and accuracy are praised. As well as consistency.
- A number appreciate distance gains or good distance - certainly my experience.
- Reviewers also praised sound and feel, as well as value. (I concur on both of these as well)
Final Verdict
You’ll love the Ignis D2 if you love bargains and you love more playable drives and good distance.
