My Experience with the Ping i240 Irons

I’m smitten. The head shape and profile are absolutely perfect to my eye—clean, confidence-inspiring, and they frame the ball beautifully.

Cosmetics are solid, but it’s the shape that really steals the show.

The i240s look like true player’s irons without being intimidating, especially in the mid and long irons. The topline and sole strike that sweet spot—refined but forgiving.

From my first range session, they performed well right away. The feel at impact was a pleasing “click”—solid, slightly soft, and never harsh or hollow. Not quite the best feel I’ve ever experienced, but it’s close. They reminded me of the i230s I tested back in 2022.

They launch high, carry well, and let you shape your shots. I saw my usual slight pushes, pulls, and the occasional mini-draw—all playable.

I even worked through the long irons, which I usually avoid. These want to get airborne, even on mishits. For me, long irons are “area fire” clubs—I just want to be in the general zone. The i240s do that reliably.

Consistency was the theme throughout the set. When struck well, they send the ball high, long, and straight. My typical misses stayed near the green.

Overall, a very satisfying set. I’d happily game these any day.

My Experience with the Ping i230 Irons

My first thought out of the box? “These blades are a little long.” (I’ve sense changed my mind after seeing them again and putting them side-by-side with the i240s)

But the minimalist design won me over fast. At address, they look clean and confidence-inspiring—very Ping.

I was hoping they’d feel like the G425s or G410s, and they delivered. My first strike with the PW confirmed it—solid, muted, just the way I like it.

Performance on the launch monitor was promising: high launch, solid distance, tight dispersion, and a slight draw when I caught it right. That translated to the course too. Even after a 5-week break and some rust, I was around or on the green most holes. Scoring wasn’t great—but that was on me, not the clubs.

This one’s close, but I slightly prefer the i230s. Initially liked the i230s clean and minimalistic design much more. I’ve grown more fond of the i240s with time.

Head shape and size are similar and they both frame the ball beautifully at address.

Which Has Better Sound & Feel?

I give an ever-so-slight nod to the i240s. The i240s may be a tad softer at impact, but sound is identical to my ears. Not enough to affect my buying decision.

Neither feels harsh on mishits.

Launch angle was nearly identical for the 7-iron from each set. The i240 7-iron’s peak height was 7 feet higher than the i230 7-iron (77 ft vs 71 ft).

That extra height helps with stopping power on greens and gives you more confidence with approach shots, especially from distance.

For some reason, Ping is asking ~$187 -$200/club for the i230s. The i240s are $200/club new.

Final Verdict – Should you buy the i240s or i230s?

Differences between the i240 irons and i230 irons are minimal other than cosmetics.

But, those differences are there.

Get the Ping i240 Irons if:

• You need a little more forgiveness and help hitting the ball higher.
• You don’t mind spending a little more.
• You value loft customization options and/or like having the latest model.

Get the Ping i230 Irons if:

• You hit the sweet spot consistently.
• You’re not as concerned with distance loss on minor mishits and you hit the ball high enough as is.
