This is Golfer Geeks’ Mizuno Pro 245 irons review. I tested the combo set.
I’m an avid golfer, 8ish handicap on my way to a 2 (been a 5.6) and frequent tester of golf clubs and equipment since 2015.
Summary: Mizuno Pro 245 irons offer exceptional feel, explosive distance, and decent forgiveness. Low ball hitters need to beware of the strong lofts of the mid and long irons. Test before you buy.
In this review of the Pro 245 irons, I discuss my experience with the clubs, their unique features and benefits, customer reviews, and potential alternatives.

Launch Monitor Data
NOTE: I hit the 5-iron terrible off my mat. (It’s mostly a 4-iron). I had much better luck during my round off of nice fairways with the ball sitting up. I striped more than a few.

To date, I’ve tested the 245s once on the range, twice on my home mat and launch monitor, and during one round at the course.

Flight/Playability | A |
Value | B |
Looks: (B+) I like the looks…I don’t love the looks. Clubhead size is fine and they look great at address, but I’m not the biggest fan of the cosmetics.
Sound/ Feel: (A) Awesome. Soft and solid with zero harshness. Exactly what you expect from a Mizuno iron.
Distance: (A+) Can be explosive distance when you flush them. Solid help on off-center strikes.
Forgiveness: (A) Good forgiveness and they never feel harsh on mishits. Appropriate punishment for the severity of the mishit.
Flight / Playability: (A) Medium-high trajectory for most shots. The mid and low irons lofts are quite strong. I was able to shape them and flight them down as needed.
Value: (B) ~$200/club. Not cheap.
My Experience with the Pro 245s
Range Sessions – 1
Launch Monitor on mat sessions – 2
Rounds of Golf – 1
I hit the 245s off of my mat first. I set up my launch monitor and hit every club in the set. I did this on two successive days.
I took 2 months off of playing or practicing before starting back a week or so before I got these in. So, these hitting sessions are as much for me as they are for the irons I’m testing.
Luckily, I had been practicing/testing the Pro 243s for a couple days before I started on the 245s. My swing wasn’t completely terrible, and I hit quite a few solid shots so I could get good data.
First thing I noticed was the outstanding feel from the 245s. I expect this from Mizuno, but it’s always pleasant to feel it in action.
At first glance, they look like blades. But they are not. There’s tons of tech packed in those clubheads. You’ll feel it when you flush it and when you miss it.
Flushed shots exploded off the clubface for me. I think at least half a club longer than what I expected for the listed loft in many cases. Slight misses cost me distance, but stayed on line during my round.
Who are the Pro 245 irons for?
These are no-doubt forgiving irons. But the lofts are strong – up to a club in many instances – which makes the mid and long irons harder to elevate.
Low handicaps: (Unlikely) These are game improvement irons, but you could certainly try them. I think the 241s or 243s will appeal more to you.
Mid handicaps: (Yep) These were made with you in mind. Careful if you have trouble elevating the ball.
High handicaps: (Maybe) The short irons may be ok for your. Mid and long irons have strong lofts. Check these out too.
Potential Alternatives
Callaway Apex i200 irons — More forgiving. Easier launch and higher trajectory. Easier to hit through the set.
Titleist T200 Irons – Easier to hit through the set. Launch easier and more forgiving.
Titleist T150 irons – Easier to elevate mid and long irons. Refined scoring clubs.

Final Verdict on the Mizuno Pro 245 Irons
The Mizuno Pro 245s are meant for mid handicaps. They offer loads of distance, ample forgiveness, and legendary Mizuno feel.
- They offer explosive distance.
- Exceptional feel.
- Good forgiveness.
- At a premium price.
My concern is for golfers that have issues elevating the ball, especially when it comes to mid and long irons. Make sure you test them before you put your money down.
As usual…
My #1 suggestion is to get your hands on them before you buy. Either at your local golf store or take advantage of Global Golf’s Utry trial program. I use it and recommend it.
