This is Golfer Geeks’ Callaway Quantum Max driver vs Taylormade Qi4D Max driver comparison.

I’m an avid golfer, 6ish handicap (on my way to a 2), and frequent tester of golf clubs and golf gear since 2015.

Quick Take: I consider the Qi4D a genuine upgrade over the Qi35 and I consider the Quantum Max a cosmetic upgrade over the Elyte X.

After testing both on-course, I give the edge to the TaylorMade Qi4D Max — it’s more forgiving, has better peak height, and has better sound and feel.

The Callaway Quantum Max isn’t far behind and wins on bag appeal.

Bottom line: If you struggle off the tee, either driver will keep you playable.

A genuine improvement over the Qi35 Max in cosmetics, and for me, playability. I think it frames the ball better and I prefer this head shape. So, that may account for my comfort and experiencing more forgiveness than last year's model. I rate it a touch better than the Quantum Max in this category.

Like the Qi4D, the Quantum Max has improved cosmetics and a pleasing head shape that frames the ball beautifully. It lacks the soft, solid feel of the Qi4D and is maybe a touch less forgiving.

Callaway says the Quantum Max is there everyman driver.

That’s my feeling with these types of drivers in general. Most of us – low handicaps included – need more forgiveness off the tee and all help with speed we can get.

Elite golfers off the tee are in another world and have specific requirements.

I tested the Quantum Max alongside the Qi4D for this comparison.

They both got their first work on the course with no warmup and, trust me, I put the “Max” to the test early in the round.

Thankfully, the Quantum Max lived up to its billing (so did the Qi4D).

It saved me early in the round when I needed help and it richly rewarded me later when my swing came around.

That’s all I ask from a driver.

Taylormade says the built the Qi4D for max forgiveness and max speed.

The Qi4D Max is a SOLID improvement over the Qi35 Max in my humble opinion. Starting with design choices and head shape.

It frames the ball much better for my eyes. Which inspires confidence – Which inspires a more confident swing – Which leads to better drives.

It’s got the same premium sound and feel. Plenty distance. And, greater playability for more fairways and more playable drives.

This one’s an upgrade, whereas, the Qi35 was a downgrade from the Qi10.

Qi4D Max Features

  • Built for Speed — Forged and machined 7075 aluminum collar delivers full adjustability in an ultra-forgiving head; modern address shape blends speed with confidence.
  • Improved Roll Radius — Tightens spin rates on high and low face strikes for more consistent distance between drives.
  • 60x Carbon Twist Face — Keeps heel and toe mishits online for tighter dispersion, with weight savings that boost ball speed.
  • TAS Weights (13g / 4g) — Two-weight Trajectory Adjustment System for mass-efficient tuning of ball flight and spin.
  • 4° Loft Sleeve — Adjusts loft, lie, and face angle to dial in trajectory.
  • LME Head Option — Upgrade with reflective fitting markers for accurate GC Quad launch monitor data.
  • REAX Shafts — Built with Mitsubishi Chemical, matched to your swing profile using data from 11M+ analyzed shots.

Customer Reviews

Overall rating of 4.9 / 5 with 116 reviews in. 98% of reviewers recommend the Qi4D driver. (1)

Across these reviews, the Qi4D Max driver gets near-universal praise for forgiveness on mishits, added distance (often 10-50 yards over previous drivers), and tighter dispersion—with seniors and higher handicappers especially calling out how easy it is to swing and keep in the fairway.

Several buyers upgraded from recent TaylorMade models (Qi10, Stealth 2, Qi 35 Max) and say the Qi4D is a clear step up in feel, sound, and control. T

he oversized head also gets repeated mentions for inspiring confidence at address.

Only real gripe: one reviewer noted the black finish marks up and chips easily when swapping shafts.

Bag Appeal — Quantum Max
I give a slight nod to the Quantum Max. Both improved over their prior year models in head shape and graphics.

Sound & Feel — Qi4D
The Qi4D is the clear winner here. Soft, solid, muted – near perfect. The Quantum Max has taken a step back in sound and feel from the AI Smoke series.

Distance — Drawish
Not enough to make a difference, in my opinion. The one caveat is I think the Qi4D is more forgiving, thus giving me more distance on slight or non-slight mishits.

Forgiveness — Slight edge to Qi4D
They both kept me playable, but I think the Qi4D straightened me out better when I came over the top, thus limiting my slices and pushes better.

That said, I like the easily adjustable sole weight of the Quantum Max. It helped me when I started hooking.

Ball Flight — Qi4D
My driver swing is erratic which means my clubhead delivery into the ball is erratic. I have a tendency to hit bullet drives when I’m off. I got better peak height with the Qi4D – Maybe unique to me. But, this is reflected in the spin numbers also. I averaged 200 more rpm with the Qi4D.

Final Verdict

Callaway Quantum Max Driver vs Taylormade Qi4D Max

After testing both drivers on the course, the TaylorMade Qi4D Max is my pick.

It’s got the better sound and feel, slightly more forgiveness – particularly against slicing – and gave me higher peak ball flight with tighter dispersion.

It’s a genuine upgrade over the Qi35 Max.

The Callaway Quantum Max is close behind and worth a look if you want the cleaner head shape and that easy-to-adjust sole weight (which saved me when I started hooking).

The Elyte X performed better for me in last year’s testing.

Who should buy what:

  • Get the Qi4D Max if you prioritize feel, sound, and forgiveness on mishits.
  • Get the Quantum Max if you want quick on-the-fly weight adjustments and prefer the look at address.

As always, my #1 suggestion is to test for yourself before you buy whenever possible.
