This is Golfer Geeks’ Callaway Elyte HL irons review.
I’m an avid golfer, 8ish handicap on my way to a 2 (been a 5.6) and frequent tester of golf clubs and equipment since 2015.
Summary: Callaway Elyte HL irons performed admirably.
- Higher launch & trajectory with more stopping power.
- Plenty forgiving with explosive distance.
- Elongated, but compact heads inspire confidence at address.

Beginners and high handicappers should give them a look if they’re in the market.

Why Consider Callaway Elyte HL Irons
Elyte HL irons are designed for:
- Maximize carry distance and stopping power – due to higher launch and sharper descent angle.
- High forgiveness.
- Mid-size profile. The heads are elongated but are shorter from the topline to the sole.
- Minimal workability. I hit my standard baby-draw all day long. But, don’t expect big curves on purpose.
Like all Elyte irons, they have the new Ai10X face and new tri-sole design.
I played one round with my buddies – two lower handicaps. They were surprised how small the heads were for game improvement irons.
That’s because of how short they are from the topline to the sole, as mentioned above.
They launch the ball plenty high and lived up to their promise for stopping power.
They are still clicky, but not harsh in any way. Callaway improved sound and feel for the entire Elyte lineup from prior models.

Looks: (A) Heads are surprisingly small for game improvement irons. They are long, but narrow from topline to sole. More of a player iron profile in this respect. But, the topline and sole are thick and the heads are substantial. So, they still look forgiving at address. They have the Elyte lineup cosmetics, of which I’m a fan.
Sound/ Feel: (B-) Clicky, but not harsh.
Distance: (A) A lot.
Forgiveness: (A) Plenty.
Flight / Playability: (A) They go high and straightish by default. I played my normal baby-draw with no extra effort. Taking off distance was a little hard for me.
Value: (A) ~$150/club. This is about what you expect to pay these days.
My Experience with the Elyte HL Iron Set
Straight to the launch monitor for the Elyte HLs because I was testing Mizuno JPX 925 Forged irons on the same day.
As expected, these things GO for real.
In fact, I had a difficult time pulling clubs during my round with them. I made a buuunch of non-committed swings because I didn’t trust my distance control.
Don’t make non-committed swings boys and girls.
Decide your shot…
Grip it…
Rip it.
I’m confident I and you would be able to figure out our yardage gaps. But, I don’t have forever with these clubs.
However, I did commit to enough shots – and so did my playing buddies – to experience what these clubs can do.
They do high and they do far. And, they hold greens.
All nice attributes.
The HLs felt well balanced and not light or whippy. A surprise for us because the 80g KBS Max shafts are VERY light for me and for my buddies.
I would like to have tried them specs closer to mine, but that’s not available for me.
Bottom line: I love these irons for mid handicaps and high handicaps moving into mid handicap range.
Who are Callaway Elyte HL irons for?
Mid and high handicaps that want more help hitting the ball high, but don’t want to sacrifice distance.
Low handicaps: (No) You could, but most won’t. Check out these options instead.
Mid handicaps: (Yes) Give them a try. You won’t be disappointed in their performance.
High handicaps: (Yes) They may do well for you. Give them a try.
Potential Alternatives
Callaway Elyte Irons – Similar performance. Better sound and feel. Same price.
Callaway Apex Ai300 Irons – Better performance and much better sound and feel. However, expect to pay about $50 more per club.
Titleist T350 irons — Beautiful clubs with larger heads and similar performance. You’ll pay about $50 more per club.
