This is Golfer Geeks’ Bushnell A1 Slope rangefinder review.
Iโm an avid golfer, a 7ish handicap on my way to a 2 (been a 5.6) and frequent tester of golf clubs and equipment since 2015.
I tested the A1 Slope on the range and during a round of golf. I shot yardages to flags, bunkers, trees, and anything I could think of that might be useful information for a golfer during a round.

A compact, reliable rangefinder with true Bushnell build quality and accuracy. Itโs light, fast, and simpleโperfect for golfers who want premium performance in a smaller package.
Overview & Why Consider It

The Bushnell A1 Slope is the brandโs smallest and most portable rangefinder to dateโbut donโt let the size fool you. It packs Bushnellโs patented Slope Technology, PinSeeker with JOLT, and their new BITE magnetic sleeve into a sleek, compact body thatโs ideal for walkers, juniors, or anyone who values pocketability.
This is also Bushnellโs first rangefinder with a built-in USB-C rechargeable battery, capable of lasting 50+ rounds on a single charge. Add in an IPX6 weather-resistant rating and youโve got a minimalist device that delivers premium accuracy in any condition.
Key Features:
- Patented Slope Technology (on/off toggle)
- Compact body with 6x magnification
- 350+ yards to flag, 1300-yard max range
- PinSeeker with JOLT feedback
- BITE Magnetic Skin for easy cart mounting
- Rechargeable battery (USB-C, 50+ rounds per charge)
- IPX6 weather resistance
- Premium carry case + microfiber cloth included
If youโre a Bushnell fan whoโs been waiting for a lightweight, minimalist rangefinder without sacrificing precision, the A1 Slope is your answer.
Design & Portability

I’m not a big rangefinder user โ gotta get that out of the way. But ALL my buddies use them, so I’m plenty familiar with how they work and what golfers expect.
The A1 Slope is the smallest one Iโve seen, held, or used, and you could easily carry it around in your pocket if thatโs your thing.
Even with the BITE magnetic sleeve on, itโs still very manageable in terms of bulk.
Shape-wise, it doesnโt break any new groundโclassic rangefinder silhouetteโbut its compact profile makes it much more convenient for walkers or players who donโt want to keep digging into a bag or case.
The small form factor alone is a legitimate reason to consider it if size and portability matter to you.
Everything seems high quality and works high quality. It’s heavy for its size, but not heavy.
The optics are crystal clear. It’s got two buttons on top that are easily accessible.
Features & Ease of Use

The A1 Slopeโs button layout is as simple and intuitive as it gets. There are two buttons on topโone for power and ranging, the other for modeโthat are easy to locate and operate even with a glove on.
They have just enough tactile feedback to confirm activation without needing to look.
The display is sharp and easy to read. The black reticle and yardages are crisp and vivid, even in bright conditions.
While it doesnโt offer an OLED or red display, I never once had an issue reading the numbers or aiming at my target.
Switching slope mode on and off is done via the mode button, and it takes just a second.
Itโs straightforward, though the unit doesnโt have an external slope switch indicator, so itโs worth double-checking before tournament play.
The JOLT feature gives a short, satisfying vibration when it locks onto the flag.
Itโs subtle but helpful, especially if youโre trying to confirm that youโve hit the pin and not something behind it.
As for the rechargeable USB-C batteryโthis is a win in my book.
Itโs far more convenient than buying and replacing CR2 batteries, and I appreciate not having to worry about running to the store.
That said, just donโt forget to charge it now and then.
- Compact and lightweight โ truly pocket-friendly without sacrificing performance
- Excellent build quality and optics, true to Bushnellโs premium standards
- Fast, accurate readings with JOLT vibration confirmation
- Magnetic sleeve adds versatility for cart riders without adding bulk
- Lacks advanced features like OLED display or triangulation, yet still carries a premium price tag
Accuracy & Performance
Accuracy-wise, the A1 Slope felt spot-on in my testing. Both line-of-sight and slope-adjusted distances seemed consistent and trustworthy.
I never once felt like I needed to double-check a number.
The readouts were fastโinstant, really. Once I pressed the button, I had a number in under a second.
That kind of speed keeps pace of play moving and feels satisfying during a round.
Locking onto the flag worked smoothly from 40 yards all the way out past 200.
I donโt have the steadiest hands, but I still had no issues getting a reading, even at longer distances.
The JOLT feedback helped confirm I had the pin and not something behind it.
I havenโt tested the Voice Caddie or Tour V6 directly, so I canโt speak to how the A1 Slope compares.
But based on how reliable and responsive this unit has been, I donโt feel like Iโm missing out.
As far as stability goes, I really donโt think the size has any effect here. If youโve got shaky hands, a bigger unit isnโt going to fix that.
For me, the A1 Slope was easy enough to hold and use without any added effort.
Magnetic Sleeve โ Is It Worth Using?

I used the A1 Slope exclusively with the magnetic sleeve during my rounds and range sessions.
Grip-wise, I didnโt experience any slipping or issues handling it, even after removing the sleeve briefly just to see how it felt bare.
Either way, itโs easy to handle and feels secure in the hand.
The magnet strength is solid. I left it attached to the cart frame all round long without it sliding, shifting, or falling.
Honestly, I was more concerned about remembering to grab it off the cart before heading to the next holeโsomething my buddies forget way too often.
Removing the sleeve is no problem. Itโs snug enough to stay put, but not a struggle to take off if you want to go pocket mode.
That said, I left mine on the entire time. Itโs just easier that way, and the added versatility of the magnet is worth it.
Value & Competitor Comparison
At $299, the A1 Slope isnโt cheapโespecially when compared to some lower-priced rangefinders that boast similar features on paper.
I havenโt personally tested many other models, so I canโt say definitively how it stacks up across the board.
But I can say this: the A1 Slope does its job well. Itโs reliable, accurate, and easy to useโhallmarks of Bushnell gear.
If brand trust, build quality, and simplicity matter more to you than extra tech bells and whistles, the price makes sense.
Youโre paying a bit more, but youโre getting something that feels refined and dependable.
Who Itโs For (And Who Itโs Not)

Our Verdict on the Bushnell A1 Slope Rangefinder
The A1 Slope is a more-than-solid rangefinder. I didnโt encounter a single issue during testing.
Then again, Iโm not looking for bells and whistles. I just want fast, accurate yardages to the flag, hazards, and landmarks. This unit delivers.
Would it earn a spot in my bag? If I used a rangefinder regularly, absolutely. Itโs easy to carry, easy to use, and checks all the boxes for dependable performance.
If youโre someone who values build quality and simplicityโand youโre willing to pay a bit more to get itโthe A1 Slope is a strong choice you wonโt regret.
