This is Golfer Geeks’ review of the Ben Hogan BHM01 putter.

I’m an avid golfer, a 9.2 handicap on my way to a 2 (been a 5.6) and frequent tester of golf clubs and equipment since 2015.

SORRY – Ben Hogan Golf has gone out of business as of 7/20/22.

I’ve been playing and practicing with the BHM01 putter for a month or so. I putt every day at home and once or twice a week at the course.

SummaryI find the BHM01 to be a very consistent and smooth rolling putter. It feels substantial and balanced in my hand. I don’t know that I’ve ever hit so many good-looking putts during rounds. My golf balls are rolling end-over-end and on my line consistently.

In this Ben Hogan BHM01 putter review, I discuss my experience with the putter, unique features and benefits, as well as customer reviews.

My Experience with the Ben Hogan BHM01 Putter

The BHM01 is, without a doubt, the prettiest putter I’ve ever owned. It is sleek, compact, and not cluttered with graphics or design features. It feels great in my hands and has a little heft to it. It is noticeably heavier than my Taylormade Spider (a putter I love and that has performed well for me).

The putter was an inch longer than I like my putters, but it felt great and I putted lights out with it on my putting mat at home so I decided to give it a try during a round of golf anyway.

At the course, I putted well on the practice green. It rolled my golf ball beautifully and I was sinking puts. But, it felt majorly awkward during my round. I was adjusting my setup to the putter and couldn’t get comfortable.

I played another round with similar results. But, I knew I had to fix this and fast. I’ve been putting well and I didn’t want to lose it completely because of an equipment change.

Goodbye Superstroke grip. I had to cut it off to take an inch off the butt-end of the putter. Now it’s 31.5 inches, regripped, and sits beautifully at address with no manipulation of my setup.

I’ve played two rounds since I cut it down and I love it’s performance. Because of the heavier putter head, I can roll the ball easier with less effort. I also love the muted feel and sound at impact. I find it rolls true and consistent.

Review of the Ben Hogan BHM01 Putter

  • Looks: Clean, compact mallet head. Shiny but not too shiny platinum nickel finish. Easy to line up my putts with the single scoring line.
  • Sound/ Feel: Muted sound and feel at impact. Solid, too.
  • Consistency: Easy to dial-in distance and helps keep your ball on line.
  • Forgiveness: My miss is towards the toe and I find distance is minimally punished.

Customer Reviews

There are 3 reviews (as I’m writing this) on the Hogan website and the average customer review is 4.7. Really not a sufficient sample, but here we are.

Who is the BHM01 Putter For?

Low handicaps & low-mid handicapscan certainly play well with this putter. The head is a bit compact, but nothing scary.

I think higher handicaps can play it well, but make sure to demo if possible to make sure you are comfortable with a slightly smaller putter head.

Our Verdict

I recommend the Ben Hogan BHM01 putter for any golfer that is or wants to get into premium milled putter heads and doesn’t mind saving a few bucks in the process.

It’s forgiving and rolls the ball well without much effort.
